In the autumn of 2025, Makarun participated in “Štorije o’ Spize,” a gastronomic and cultural event organised by the Split Tourist Board dedicated to preserving Dalmatian culinary heritage and local food traditions.
During the event, visitors had the opportunity to experience one of the oldest culinary traditions from the island of Korčula — the handmade preparation of makaruni.
At the center of the presentation was baba Tanja, who demonstrated how traditional makaruni are rolled entirely by hand using techniques passed down through generations in the village of Pupnat.
Throughout the event, guests were invited not only to taste the pasta, but also to learn the process themselves and understand the patience, rhythm, and craftsmanship behind every makarun.
For many visitors, it was a rare opportunity to witness a living culinary tradition rather than simply reading about it.
Events like “Štorije o’ Spize” play an important role in preserving local identity and connecting visitors with the authentic food culture of Dalmatia.
At Makarun, we are proud to contribute to that mission by keeping handmade makaruni traditions alive — not as a performance, but as part of our everyday work.
